AZUSA CITRUS LIGHT RAIL STATION - GLASS
|
The new Azusa Citrus Station Goldline station will extend light rail well into the San Gabriel Valley. This public art commission consists of a 28’ long glass canopy that will shelter the ticket vending machines & map cases, and 4 cast concrete benches embedded with colorful mosaics. The station will be built on land with a long horticultural history. The Fan Palm Glass Canopy recalls stately and iconic Palm Drive with its rare stand of California Fan Palms (Washingtonia filifera) which are thought to have been planted in 1899. These trees have come to symbolize Azusa, and continue to provide the people of Azusa with an important connection to their City’s past. Each of the mosaics will evoke one of the important plants that are strongly associated with the Azusa foothills: Oranges & Honey Bees Wild Hyacinths Western Sycamore Camellia |
